Dear Dr. M and Molly,
My math teacher is so mean to me. She told my friend that I'm one of her worst students in the class. I only failed that one test. I don't want to be her worst student. I feel so stupid. HELP!

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Ashlee,
Your teacher should not be discussing the kind of student you are with anyone, except, of course, you and your parents. Before you get really angry with the teacher and take action, make sure that your friend has given you accurate information about what your math teacher said. Then, see your teacher before or after class and tell her that you want to do better in class and could use some help. Let her know that if she has a problem with you as a student, you'd really appreciate it if she would talk to you directly instead of to another student. If your teacher continues to act in inappropriate ways, ask your parent or the school principal for help.

Liz's Answer
Dear Ashlee,
Try not to feel stupid. If your teacher is being mean, then you should ask her why. If you don't think you did anything wrong, then it is not OK for her to pick on you. Tell a parent or guardian how you feel and maybe she can talk to her. Also, you said that you had failed one of her tests. If you feel like you are struggling in her class, you should ask for help. Instead of feeling stupid, learn the material! Maybe your teacher has an extra help session where she could explain the work to you so you don't feel so stressed. Good luck.
