Dear Dr. M and Liz,
I'm thinking of going to a new school next year. I don't want to leave my friends. This new school has more opportunities for me, though. I can't decide. Please help!!!

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Mary,
Throughout your life you will have to make choices like the one that's facing you now. It sounds to me like you want to take advantage of the chance to go to a school with great opportunities, but it will be hard to spend the school day without those close friends. Figure out ways to stay connected with your old friends outside of school time. And, once you start your new school, you'll probably meet kids who can become your friends, too.

Liz's Answer
Dear Mary,
I'd say: go to the better school because you can make friends at your new school and you have all these opportunities you shouldn't miss. You can see your old friends on the weekend, so you don't have to give them up either.
