Dear Dr. M and Liz,
I got the meanest teacher in the school for English. She yells at the kids that don't quite know what she's teaching. She made my BFF cry. What should I do?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Haley,
Your teacher needs a lesson in teaching, doesn't she? If you're feeling very brave, make an appointment to talk to your teacher, and let her know that her yelling is very upsetting to the class. Maybe that behavior is such a natural part of who she is that she doesn't even realize that what she's doing is wrong. If you don't feel comfortable talking to your teacher one-on-one (and I can certainly understand why), think about writing a letter to her and getting other kids to sign. Be sure to write in a respectful way. Just because your teacher is a bully doesn't mean you should become one, too. In fact, you might want to find something that your teacher does well and compliment her for that along with writing about your complaint. If you need to, get a parent involved. You don't have to solve every problem yourself.

Liz's Answer
Dear Haley,
Talk to your parents about the situation, and ask your friends to talk to their parents, too. Your parents can arrange a meeting with your teacher to talk about what's going on in your English class. Most likely, when your teacher hears from a group of parents, she'll take the issue seriously.
