Dear Dr. M and Liz,
One time when I had a playdate with my friend, my teacher gave us a lot of homework, and it wasted all of our playtime. By the time we were done with our homework, her mom was there (I really did not like it.)

Dr. M's Answer

Dear MaryRose,
I can understand how disappointed you were when your friend's mom showed up before you and your friend had a real chance to play. One of the important jobs you'll have as you grow up is learning how to balance schoolwork with play time. If you have a playdate again when you have lots of homework, try the following: do homework for a little while, take a break for play, and then get back to your homework. The fun break might even help you to better concentrate on your homework.

Liz's Answer
Dear MaryRose,
At least you got to do your homework with your friend and not by yourself. Plan another date to get together with your friend that's on a weekend or on a day when you don't have much homework.
