Dear Dr. M and Liz,
Why can't I keep my room clean when it is so easy?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Eva,
If you don't like to clean your room—and most kids don't—you probably avoid doing so, finding other things to do with your time. By the time you get around to cleaning your room, it's not such a simple thing any longer. So you might try to set a schedule, one cleaning chore each day or so, so the mess won't pile up.

Liz's Answer
Dear Eva,
Even though cleaning isn't usually too hard, especially if you do it regularly, it's something that a lot of people—myself included—put off all the time. However, I've found that cleaning is much more enjoyable when you play music while you're doing it or turn it into some sort of game. If you're a competitive person you could time yourself and try to improve on that time whenever you clean. You could also reward yourself once you're finished.
