Dear Dr. M and Liz,
How do you give out such good advice? I am the advice columnist at my school newspaper and I don't know how to give out advice at all. I just wish our teacher had assigned it to us instead of drawing names out of a hat. I just hope you can read my question.

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Malasha,
My many years of education have helped me understand how girls grow up and what kinds of problems they have. It's harder to do than it looks. When I'm figuring out what advice to give, I read the question very carefully to see what the real problem is and then try to understand what the girl is feeling in that situation. Usually, it helps to offer a suggestion, something that the person can do about her problem.

Liz's Answer

Dear Malasha,
I find that the best way to give advice is to think of what you would tell a friend if she were in that situation. So next time you have to answer questions for your school's advice column, you can pretend that you are just talking to your best friend and she is asking you what she should do about a problem she has. Good luck.
