Dear Dr. M and Molly,
I might move away and I am afraid I might not see my friends.

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Tonii,
You don't seem sure about whether the move will definitely happen. Maybe you're worrying for no reason. Ask your parents some questions: Are we definitely moving? Where are we moving to? When are we going to move? Once you know more, you can begin to take action. If you discover that you are moving, you and your friends can discuss how to stay in touch. If you aren't moving far away, you'll be able to visit often and when you're not visiting, you can use the phone and the Internet. Even if you are moving a long distance away, the Internet connects people all over the world. My daughter, who is now 19, had a friend who moved to Japan when she was about 8 years old, and they still keep in touch by Internet, letters and cards.

Liz's Answer

Dear Tonii,
Moving away is always hard. You are probably nervous and that's normal. You will make new friends, but that doesn't mean that you have to lose your old friends. You can always visit, call, email or instant message each other. If you want to keep in touch with your friends, all you need to do is make an effort. Good luck moving to your new town.
