Dear Dr. M,
On the bus, I want to talk to my friend in the seat across from me. But the friends that I sit with won't let me. What should I do?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Rachel,
Your friends are not being very fair, trying to prevent you from talking to one of your other friends. Maybe they're jealous of the attention you're giving to that girl. It doesn't really matter what their reasons are, you should feel free to talk to whomever you want on the bus. Let your friends know you like them and want to keep being friends with them, but you can't let them choose who you can talk to.

Liz's Answer
Dear Rachel,
Your friends can't prevent you from talking to the other girl. If you want to talk to her, just go ahead and do it. Maybe you can even include this girl when you're having a conversation with your other friends, so everyone can get to know each other. When your other friends see how nice this girl is, maybe they'll become friends with her, too.
