Dear Dr. M and Liz,
I'm moving and I keep on thinking about my friend at night and crying. What should I do?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Kate,
Moving away is hard, and leaving your close friends behind is really tough. Talk to your friend about how you can stay connected even when you live far away from each other. Take advantage of emails, IMs, phone calls, and letters. And figure out how the two of you might be able to get together in person once in a while. While you're trying to keep your old friendship strong, try to be open to developing new friendships in your new neighborhood.

Liz's Answer
Dear Kate,
It's nice that you have such a close friend that you're crying thinking about moving away from her. You can try to keep in touch with emails, letters, and phone calls. And if you're not moving too far away, you can even plan to visit her sometimes. Keep in mind that you'll make other friends when you move.
