Dear Dr. M and Liz,
My friend Katie just got her school supplies. She got the exact same bag as my other friend. Katie thinks the other friend is going to get mad at her.

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Lauren,
Friends often have similar likes and dislikes, so it's not surprising that two of your friends would get the same bag. When Katie sees her friend with the same bag, she might want to say something like, "Gee, we both have good taste, don't we?"

Liz's Answer
Dear Lauren,
If Katie explains to your other friend that she didn't mean to get the same bag as her, that it was just an accident, then I'm sure your other friend won't get mad at her.
