Dear Dr. M and Molly,
My friend wants to join a gang and a few weeks ago she asked me for my opinion. I said that I was OK with it. But now I am REALLY regretting my answer. Did my answer make me a bad friend?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Sydney,
When your friend asked for your opinion about joining a gang, you probably said it was OK because you thought she wanted you to say that. Now that a few weeks have gone by and you've had a chance to think about the question, you've changed your mind. You're not a bad friend since you want what's best for your friend. But you'll be an even better friend if you go back to your friend and tell her that you really don't think it's a good idea to join a gang.

Liz's Answer

Dear Sydney,
You are not a bad friend, but your answer might really affect your friend. Really try to stop your friend from joining a gang. She might get hurt. Often times, kids in gangs end up under a lot of peer pressure to do things they know they should not do. You don't want your friend to get caught up with the wrong crowd. Try to save your friend now from regrets she might have later in life.
