Dear Dr. M and Molly,
I just found out that my 20-year-old cousin has a tumor and I am so worried. What should I do?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Sarah,
You care about your cousin, so, of course, you're worried. Find out more about your cousin's illness and the kind and length of treatment expected. That way, when you visit your cousin at home or in the hospital, you will understand what is going on. You might also ask your cousin's parents whether there is something you can do for them while they're busy with your cousin—maybe taking care of their pets or doing chores around the house. It's always better to do something helpful than to just sit and worry. And remember that it's okay for you to have fun while your cousin is sick.

Liz's Answer
Dear Sarah,
It is hard when you find out that people you love are ill. The best thing to do is talk about it. Don't keep your feelings bottled up. It is okay to cry and be upset. As hard as it is, try not to let your cousin's illness get in the way of everything you do. You don't want it to take over your life, but maybe you could visit your cousin more. Hope all goes well.
