Dear Dr. M and Liz,
My sister always bugs me. She intentionally does things when I've asked her not to, so we tend to fight a lot. How do I communicate in a nice way that she should stop?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Sister Trouble,
Your sister might be doing the opposite of what you want because she would like you to pay attention to her, and bugging you is one sure way to get you to notice her. Sometimes, it's better to make positive comments about good behavior than to try to stop behavior that's annoying. When the two of you are having fun together, tell your sister how glad you are that you're getting along and that you'd love to have more times like that.

Molly's Answer
Dear Sister Trouble,
I am sorry that you and your sister fight a lot. If your sister is mean to you, make sure you ask her politely to stop. Do not say it in a mean way or the problem will only get bigger. If you can, tell a parent or guardian that your sister is disturbing you. Maybe an adult will be able to help. Although you may think that your sister starts all of the fights, you may contribute to some of them as well. Watch what you say around her and try not to fight.
