Dear Dr. M,
I have a brother who is seven. He wants to do everything that I do. It gets me so mad when he does this. I try to tell him very calmly that he is getting on my nerves but he doesn't listen. What should I do?

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Annoyed Older Sister,
It really can be annoying to have a younger brother shadow your every move, but be flattered that he finds your life so exciting—and that he wants your attention. Try to spend time with him when he's not being a pest to show him that he doesn't have to follow you around to get your attention. Ask him to invite a friend over when you want to spend time with your friends—your brother will probably find being with a buddy more interesting than hanging out with you. And if nothing seems to work, ask for help from a parent.

Liz's Answer
Dear Annoyed Older Sister,
When you're planning to spend time with a friend, tell your brother that you'll play with him before she shows up, and then you want him to leave you alone.
