Dear Dr. M and Liz,
I'm totally bumming in school. Can you give me some tips to keep my mind on school and nothing else, like boys. Please Dr. M and Molly, I need you.

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Tavanisha,
It's okay to think about boys some of the time—that's typical of lots of girls your age. In fact, it's normal to daydream in school when you're bored. You should also know that sometimes when you tell yourself not to think about something, that's exactly what you're going to think about. So stop worrying about keeping your mind off boys. Instead, think about what you can do to improve your learning and study habits. You might take notes on what your teacher is saying, and raise your hand more often to ask or answer questions in class. If you sit front and center in the classroom, you will be more likely to pay attention. Get your seat changed, if possible, so you're in the teacher's view most of the time.

Liz's Answer
Dear Tavanisha,
I can only give you tips, but you are really the one who can solve your problem. Try doing your homework as soon as you get home after school, and study for tests in advance. Using index cards is a great studying method. Maybe ask your teachers for any other guidance. Try to stay really focused in school and do the best you can on your work.
