Dear Dr. M and Molly,
I have a male doctor. When I get my period, I'll be really nervous to tell my doctor and talk about it. I don't know what to do! Please help as soon as possible.

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Sara,
I understand your embarrassment, but remember that your doctor knows a lot about periods and has had a lot of experience talking about it with his patients. To him, the subject of periods is like any other medical topic. However, if you would rather talk to a female doctor, ask your mom to help you do some research. The two of you should find out whether your doctor has a female doctor working in his office. If not, you and your mom can try to find a female doctor who specializes in working with adolescents and is particularly sensitive to your concerns and questions.

Liz's Answer
Dear Sara,
You should tell your mom that you want to switch to a female doctor. This happens to many girls, including myself. You get to an age when you just feel more comfortable with a female doctor. I'm sure your male doctor has had many girls switch, and he will understand. Do whatever makes you comfortable.
