Dr. M's Answer

Dear Dayfly,
Even though you may be embarrassed to talk to your mom about getting your period, she was in the same situation when she was your age and probably can relate to your feelings. She can give you the kind of information you need, so you'll feel less stressed. And if you find that you're still feeling stressed after talking to your mom, seek out help from your school nurse who has experience answering questions and listening to concerns about this topic.

Liz's Answer
Dear Dayfly,
If you have started to get your period, tell your mom so she can help you deal with it. And you should tell her as soon as possible. Find a time when you are alone with her and say that you think you got your period and don't know what to do. It will be easier to just say that you got your period straight out, instead of trying to find the right words.
