Dear Dr. M and Molly,
I feel like I'm chubby. Not obese or anything, my stomach just goes out far. Mom says I'm not. However she says I overeat. I'd feel embarrassed to talk to my male doctor, but should I go on a diet? Get more exercise? HELP!

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Elizabeth,
You may be embarrassed to talk to your doctor about your weight, but he's the one who can give you the most accurate information and tell you whether you should be changing the way you eat. Often, girls your age, who are going through puberty, start seeing changes in the way their body looks, curves where there were none before. That doesn't mean you're overweight. Regardless of your weight, being physically active is a positive thing. You'll have more energy, feel less stressed, and look better.

Liz's Answer
Dear Elizabeth,
If you feel uncomfortable with the way you look, maybe you could start to exercise more. Try to watch how much you eat, and maybe eat healthier foods. If you want to ask your doctor more specific questions but you feel uncomfortable, you could ask your mom if you could switch to a female doctor.
