Dr. M's Answer

Dear Alexa,
Hard as it is to start a conversation with your mom, you'll need to raise this issue. Your mom is not likely to be surprised—she was once your age and probably had questions and concerns similar to yours. Find a time when your mom has a few minutes to listen to how you feel and to answer your questions. Let her know why you believe you're ready to wear a bra and how much you'd appreciate her help in finding the bra that's just right for you.

Liz's Answer
Dear Alexa,
Going through puberty can be a bit overwhelming, I know. Maybe you don't even know it, but your mom is thinking the exact same thing! She might realize that you're growing up and are going to need to get a bra soon. At the right time, just tell your mom that you are starting to grow in the chest area and you think you need a bra. When I first wanted to get a bra, I talked to a friend who is two years older than me. She told me that one day she and her friends went to the mall. All of her friends were buying bras and she didn't want to seem childish so she bought one, too. When she came home, she said to her mom that she and her friends thought it would be fun if they bought bras. A few days later, her mom asked if she might want to actually wear it and that's when my friend started to wear bras. You may want to try either of those two ways.
