Dear Dr. M and Liz,
I have a problem. I'm in a wheelchair. Nobody wants to be friends with me because of it. The only way I can make friends is if I make up cool stories about me and tell them to people. Help! Please.

Dr. M's Answer

Dear Claudine,
You may think you have to make up stories to have friends, but you don't. Your wheelchair is just your way of getting around. Don't let it prevent you from caring about other people and having fun. Those are the qualities that will make other kids want to spend time with you. If you keep lying, one day your friends will figure out what you're doing and leave you because it's hard to be friends with someone you can't trust.

Liz's Answer
Dear Claudine,
Don't let being in a wheelchair stop you from making friends the way anyone else would. If you let your true personality shine through instead of making up stories about yourself, you will surely meet people who want to be friends with the real you.
