A Day in the Life of a Movie Star
At 7:00 a.m., a driver picks me and one of my parents up to go to Pinewood Studios where the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is being filmed. We usually go over my "lines" (or words my character says) in the car.

In my dressing room, I order breakfast (food on the movie set is really good but dessert is best!). It takes the hair and makeup people 45 minutes to get me ready. Until the movie director needs me, I go to school in a room near my dressing room or the set.

During break, my friend Julia (who plays "Veruca Salt" in the movie) and I play card games and go outside. We have a lot of fun laughing together.

By the time the work day ends, it's usually 6:30 at night. After dinner, I watch TV, study my lines, do homework, and go to bed. Exciting!

Interview with AnnaSophia, star of Because of Winn Dixie

As told to Jennifer Goddard

AnnaSophia Robb is an 11-year-old girl who is also a working actress! Read about how she got into acting, what a typical day is like, and the advice she gives to anyone who wants to do what she does!

A Star is Born

I think I was three when I knew I really wanted to act. Whenever I saw kids in movies or TV shows I liked, I would think, "that looks like a lot of fun, I'd like to do that!"

I got started in acting when I was eight. I asked my parents if I could get an agent. My mom checked around and found a really neat agency in Denver. At the time, I did Irish step dance, gymnastics, and sang. My agent said I should take some acting classes to help prepare me for auditions.

My first acting job was a radio commercial. It was really exciting for all of us (especially my grandma) to hear my voice on the radio. My first TV acting job was a McDonald's commercial.

Movie Magic

In spring 2003, I went on my first trip out to Los Angeles (LA) for "pilot season" (the time of the year when lots of new TV programs and films are made). Out of 46 auditions, I got one national commercial and was thrilled! When I went back to LA for pilot season again, things really opened up for me after I got the role of "Opal" in the movie Because of Winn Dixie.

Now I'm in London, England, working on a movie called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I play a girl named "Violet" and get to wear makeup and a wig that takes almost 45 minutes to put on! It's a lot of fun.

Want to Be a Star?

My advice to other girls who want to be actresses:

  • Have confidence.
  • Be yourself.
  • Don't let things bring you down.
  • Take acting classes.
  • Make sure you really want to act; you can't just want to be in movies because you want to be famous.
  • Have your parents behind you 100% and keep good people around you (like a good agent you can trust).
  • Remember: Acting is hard work, not just fun and games.
  • And the most important thing: Have respect for others, especially your parents and yourself.
