Five Ways to Stay in Touch With Your Friends
By Jennifer Gioia
School is almost out! How will you keep in touch with your friends over the summer? Here are five things you can do:
 |
 |
| |
|
- Send an e-card
Anna is going away to camp and Maja is spending the summer at her Nana's house. You have no clue what their summer addresses will be, but you do know their e-mail addresses. So why not send an e-card? The best part? They're cute and free right here on Girls Only.
- Create Your Own Story
Start writing a story. After a few sentences, send what you've written to a friend. Ask her to write the next couple of lines and send it back to you. How long can you keep the story going? How silly can you make it? How scary? Try adding some illustrations. By the end of the summer your bestseller will be finished!
- Send Postcards
It may sound "old school," but who doesn't love getting something in the mail? Postcards are a great way to let your friends know what you've been up to. You can even make your own. (Check out the side bar to see how.)
- Design Your Own Paper
Decorate paper and envelopes with your personal style and give them out to your friends. It's simple! You can add a colorful border, or surround your note with your favorite summer words, or any design you'd like to make. Here's how you do it: Using a ruler, measure off one inch from all the edges of a plain sheet of paper. Using the straight edge of the ruler to connect the measurements, make a border around the inside of the paper. Next, use rubber stamps or colored markers and pencils to create a design within the border area. Copy this design on your envelope. Write your name and address on the front of each envelope so your friends will know exactly where to send you a letter. Before school is over, hand the note cards and envelopes out to the friends you want to stay in touch with over the summer. Who wouldn't want to write you a letter on such cool paper?
- Make a Friends Summer Photo Journal
All you need is a disposable camera, some envelopes and stamps and your fave friends! Take a few pictures, then send the camera to a friend. Next, your friend takes a few pictures and sends the camera to another friend. When all the pictures have been taken, ask an adult to get them developed. Stick to four to six friends, so this way everyone can take enough pictures to show something special they did during the summer. At the end of the summer, get together with your friends for a photo journal party. Everyone can talk about their summer as you put the photo journal together.
