All About Juniors

Molly, 8, is a Brownie from Washington. She asked the Girls Only Team:

"I'm going to be a Junior in third grade. What do you do as a Junior? I can't wait!"

The Girls Only Team asked Katerina, 9, a Junior Girl Scout from Connecticut, to tell us what it's really like to be a Junior Girl Scout. This was Katerina's response:

So, you ask, what is it like to be a Junior Girl Scout?

It's exciting when you bridge to Juniors. You shed your old brown brownie vest encrusted with Try-Its and patches and slip on a mint-green Junior vest.

Your Junior vest isn't that different from the old vest you just handed to your leader. It still has your Girl Scout Council and Girl Scouts of USA patches on it. There's still the felt tab with the International Girl Scout and Trefoil pins on it. If you flew up from Daisies to Brownies, you'll recognize the pair of wings on your vest from flying up from Brownies to Juniors. If you completed a Junior badge at the end of Brownies, you will have an arched rainbow for bridging and a badge.

You will notice that the Junior badge is different than a Try-It. For one, it's a small, round circle, not a triangle. Next, you'll notice you had to complete six activities to earn the badge, not the four activities for the Try-Its. Lastly you'll notice you had DO it, not TRY it.

In Juniors, you still do everything you did when you were a Brownie, but you take more responsibilities and you vote on a lot of things.

I hope this answered most of your questions about Juniors and that you continue Girl Scouting in the future. It's a fun way to help other people and learn new things yourself.

Thanks for listening!
